“We all play our part to achieve excellence in everything” – PE and sport are key in achieving this.

We believe that physical education, experienced in a safe, engaging and supportive environment, is a significant factor in developing our children’s physical development and well-being.

We promote physical skilfulness, physical development and knowledge of the body in action. We aim to give a stimulating, enjoyable and appropriately challenging learning experience. A broad and balanced physical education curriculum is intended to provide for pupils’ increasing self-confidence in their ability to manage themselves and their bodies within a variety of movement situations. Children may work as individuals, be paired-off or take part in group activities. During co-operative, creative and competitive situations they are encouraged to use their improvisation and problem-solving skills.

Our children are also encouraged to appreciate the importance of a healthy lifestyle and be aware of the factors that affect our health and fitness.  This helps us to sustain the impact of the funding over a period of time as does the upskilling of school staff

A whole school run has been introduced three times a week where children record their own stamina and speed, all have made good progress..

2017/2018 funding

Based on our successful use of the funding last year, the funding continues to be used to support the employment of a Specialist Sports provider for the school. In addition to providing top quality PE teaching, the lessons up-skill the school staff to ensure that the quality provision is sustainable. In addition the funding is used to provide swimming provision to children in Year 3, 4 and 5 to ensure that more children achieve the 25 metre requirement at the end of Year 6 and, as Hindringham is near the coast, to ensure that children are able to swim and be confident in the water. The funding is also used to improve provision of sports equipment and apparatus, and play equipment to encourage pupils to be more active at break times. The funding  provides an after school  multi- sports club and helps with the costs of the school taking part in cluster sport events. This year we aim to also use the funding to provide quality dance provision across the school and also to further improve our Forst School provision.

The impact of this funding includes:

  • observable improvement in general fitness levels of children
  • increased successful participation in external team events
  • wider range of, and attendance at, after school sports activities/clubs
  • working in collaboration with teachers to raise standards of all PE teaching
  • development of assessment procedures in PE which inform pupil progress and future planning.
